MEET ONE OF OUR 2015 CORPORATE SPONSORS! The start of Black Mountain Miniatures came as a surprise to Jean Hayunga.
Her husband Del had researched and purchased her first Miniature Horse as a gift for her Birthday.
They are both retired and live in the Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel, CA. The farm comprises 84 acres on Black Mountain, a part of the 20,000 acre preserve. Jean has always had passion for producing the next generation with the goal of the next generation being of better quality. Successfully breeding Miniature Poodles and Canaries the Miniature Horses have been a real gift to Jean as it provides her a challenge in the equine world. While her husband Del is out foxhunting and playing cowboy, she says “I am busy enjoying all the fun and challenges that come with breeding and showing Miniature Horses. They have provided me the first opportunity to be in the barn with my husband and his large horses.”
The boutique style breeding program at Black Mountain Miniatures started with 3 foundation show horses in 2005. By acquiring two weanling show filly prospects – Alliance Miss Virginia who showed and won World Champion Yearling Futurity Filly, and Little Kings Buckeroo Forevermore who successfully competed from a yearling until senior mare, accumulating 3 World Championships and World Grand Junior & Senior Mare titles. The next cornerstone of the breeding program was acquiring a stunning black stallion, Sequoia Majestic Mime, that Jean noticed in the show arena at the 2005 World Show. That stallion went on to win the following year Unanimous World Grand Champion Senior Stallion title. Over the years the Miniature Horses have brought so much joy to Jean and Del both at home and in the show arena. They also have made new friends and enjoy the social aspect these horses have provided. As they will say “We have found a place you’re going to love” and after your visit you will understand.
